The Media Play the Owen Wilson Blame Game
Now that the American media has respected Owen Wilson’s request for privacy for almost two whole days, it’s back to business as usual. In today’s US Weekly, Courtney Love blames British actor Steve Coogan for his friend Wilson’s attempted suicide: “I went through it with Steve,†she says. “I was just out of rehab, and he was right there with the drugs … I tried to warn Owen. I tried to warn his friends … I hope from the bottom of my heart that Owen stays the hell away from that guy.†(Coogan is reportedly readying a lawsuit.)
Not to be outdone, classy newspaper USA Today looks for clues in the work of writer/director Wes Anderson, a frequent Wilson collaborator, noting that depression and suicide are recurrent themes in his films. Well, duh.
Being that it’s the slowest news week in history, we expect to see this trend get a lot worse before the weekend.
