Amazon.com Invents an iPod You Can Read
This morning, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announced the details of Kindle, the company’s new e-book viewer, which is being described as an “iPod for reading.†It may very well be the ugliest thing we’ve ever seen, but we’re still pretty impressed with the features; the device will be “perpetually connected†to the Internet and allow one to read newspapers, blogs, and you know, books — new releases will be downloadable for about $10, and classics will go for as low as $2. Mostly, though, it’ll probably make online book piracy as ubiquitous as music piracy is, since every one of these things can probably hold as many paperbacks as an average-size Barnes & Noble, and downloading them all will likely take less than a minute. We totally want a Kindle!
