Writers’ Strike Becoming More of a Bummer Every Day
SNL Staff Fired: NBC has laid off “nearly the entire production staff†of the on-hiatus Saturday Night Live until further notice. Now looking for work: several camera men, gaffers, and the poor guy whose job it is to affix boxes to dicks. [NYP]
SNL Lives! The cast of SNL improvised a live, non-televised version of the show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater on Saturday night, with Superbad star Michael Cera hosting. No one was able to get tickets, except for the New York Times’ Melena Ryzik. [Intel]
WGA and AMPTP Talking Again? Crediting the amazing efficacy of forced layoffs, the Writers Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will resume contract negotiations after the Thanksgiving holiday (which out-of-work SNL employees will spend dining on ramen and shoe leather, presumably). [Variety]
Broadway Strike Talks Called Off: On-strike Broadway stagehands union Local One met with producers over the weekend to see if they could negotiate an agreement. Turns out they couldn’t. [NYT]
Writers’ Strike Claims First Movie Victims: Da Vinci Code sequel Angels and Demons and Pinkville, Oliver Stone’s movie about the 1968 Mai Lai massacre, have both been put on hold until the WGA strike is over. For shame, writers. [Variety]
