Timbaland, Who We Hope Is Lying, Claims He Will Produce All of Jay-Z’s Next Album
In an interview with MTV.com today, fallen-off super-producer Timbaland claims that he alone will do all the beats on Jay-Z’s next record. “He wants me to do the whole thing,†says Tim. “‘Big Pimpin†is an international hit, so we wanna do 10 of those. Meaning, some of the songs gonna sound like M.I.A. would rap on some of the beats. You gonna be like, ‘Whoa!’ But it’s Jay on ‘em. That means it reaches everywhere. I’mma have songs with bagpipes. The music is gonna be so worldwide, he’ll be able to tour the rest of his life, maybe, off just this one album.â€
But while the prospect of ten bagpipe-enhanced, M.I.A.-ish “Big Pimpin‘“s sounds totally awesome in theory, we’re obviously concerned about Timbaland’s ability to pull off such a thing these days; when was the last time you really loved one of his beats? Is there a man, woman, or child on Earth not sick of the guy right now? Plus, wasn’t “Come Around,†Tim’s lone contribution to M.I.A.’s Kala, that album’s only stinker? If Jay-Z were going to go the single-producer route, why can’t he just call up Just Blaze, who very nearly saved Kingdom Come from being a total wash? (At least he wouldn’t try to rap on any of his beats.) In the same interview, though, Timbaland claims that his upcoming album with Chris Cornell is his best work ever, so let’s hope he’s lying about the Jay-Z thing too.
