Visit Beautiful Pittsburgh, Say the Makers of ‘The Road’!
USA Today has a slideshow from the upcoming movie version of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, in which the city of Pittsburgh capably plays the part of a barren, postapocalyptic wasteland. “It’s a beautiful place in fall with the colors changing,” says director John Hillcoat. “But in winter, it can be very bleak. There are city blocks that are abandoned. The woods can be brutal. We didn’t want to go the CGI world.” That’s right — absolutely no computers were used to enhance the natural splendor of Pittsburgh winter! Also, the movie’s roving bands of gun-wielding cannibals were just weird-looking Pittsburghers who wandered onto the set.
