HBO Orders Second Season of ‘True Blood’ Because, Well, What the Hell Else Have They Got?

Looks like we may have more time to figure out what those vampires represent in HBO’s True Blood. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO just ordered a second season of Alan Ball’s New Orleans–based supernatural drama after only two episodes. Why? We have no idea! Only 1.44 million viewers tuned in for the premiere, and reviews were mixed. “We are absolutely thrilled that the critics and our viewers have embraced True Blood,†said HBO’s Michael Lombardo, using a hilariously flexible definition of the word embraced. “Alan Ball has done it again — made an addictive series that is unlike any other.†We’ll give him this much: It’s certainly unlike The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, and all the other shows we used to subscribe to HBO for. In other news, hasn’t Mad Men been great lately?
