Photographer Polixeni Papapetrou Shells Out

Aussie photographer Polixeni Papapetrou is not only a recent victim of the ever simmering culture wars — not long ago, her countrymen took offense at a 5-year old photo she took of her then-6-year-old daughter in white panties on the beach — she might also be a future curator for the Museum of Natural History. Certainly, this image of her almost-teen daughter in a frilled bathing suit would work there in a diorama of prehistoric adolescent life. Is that a singing shell she’s rocking in place of an iPod? Papapetrou goes on show at Foley Gallery this Thursday through October 11.
