AMC has assured viewers on repeated occasions that Mad Men would return for a third season this summer in pretty much the same condition in which itâs always existed â but whatâs the showâs creator (whoâs still not signed a deal to come back) saying at Champagne-stocked Golden Globes after-parties?
âI donât know anything about next season â I donât even know if itâs happening,â said Matthew Weiner to E! News on Sunday night, following his showâs second consecutive win for Best Drama Series. âYou know me, Iâm very forthcoming,â he told a reporter, presumably after taking this hilarious photo. âAnd I donât even know what to tell you. I donât know what to say ⌠Iâve done everything I can. Thatâs all I can tell you.â He added that Mad Menâs fate is âunknowable.â
E! also tracked down Christina Hendricks, who plays Mad Menâs Joan Holloway, backstage at the awards. âThere is no show without Matthew,â she told them (despite the fact that weâre pretty sure sheâs contractually obligated to star in one even if he fails to sign a deal). Obviously, weâre concerned that Weiner and Lionsgate have been unable to reach an agreement after four long months of negotiating, but, come on, itâs not like he was going to do any work the day after the Golden Globes, anyway.
