Say what you will about Nikki Finke’s photo- illustrations (we love them!), but her reporting is generally never wrong — which is why we (and Variety) felt perfectly comfortable yesterday telling you about Juan Antonio Bayona being selected to direct the upcoming third Twilight movie based only on her scoop and without corroboration from the studio. The L.A. Times’ Patrick Goldstein — who just happened to have lunch with Summit Entertainment executive Erik Feig yesterday — felt differently, and he chastised us and others last night after Feig purportedly told him, “The Eclipse directing job hasn’t been offered to Juan Antonio or anyone else.â€
Now, Finke says that Feig has apologized to her, and that he plans to confront Goldstein about “misquoting†what he said about the accuracy of Finke’s original story, which was worded like this: “I can confirm that Summit Entertainment is telling Hollywood privately that Juan Antonio Bayona will direct Eclipse.†Finke stands by her reporting, and we look forward to a huge “TOLDJA!†when Summit PR eventually confirms the whole thing.
