When it was announced in mid-February that U2 would be doing a week’s residency on The Late Show With David Letterman, veteran music-biz columnist Bob Lefsetz opined as to whether the move would end up benefiting U2 or Letterman more. And the answer, sadly, appears to be that it didn’t really help either party much. Not only is No Line on the Horizon set to do about half the business that How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb did in its first week, but the Late Show didn’t see any noticeable bump in its ratings after scoring this alleged coup (despite the fact that the band used the platform to launch an unprovoked attack on Sting). Then again, maybe flat is the new up? [Live Feed/THR]
