What You Gonna Do: Peter Craig (The Town) has been hired by Columbia to write a screenplay for a third installment of the Bad Boys franchise. The studio has no guarantee that any of the principal players — Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, director Michael Bay, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer — will return, but it’s basically hoping they all feel like it. At this point, we’re going to have to say, shit has not yet gotten real. [HR]
Rambo Lives: In more action-packed-sequel news, Sylvester Stallone will star and direct a fifth installment of the Rambo franchise. The untitled film will feature Rambo killing human traffickers and drug lords in an attempt to rescue a girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border. Unfortunately, this won’t come out until after the April 13 release of Stallone’s The Expendables, which stars himself, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Mickey Rourke, and will likely render all other movies unnecessary. [Variety]
Pump the Brakes: Nicolas Cage will star in and Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine 3D) will direct Drive Angry, a revenge flick to be shot in 3-D. Cage plays a man on a murderous rampage as he chases down the people who killed his daughter and kidnapped her baby. But the most terrifying prospect of this project? Nicolas Cage’s face in 3-D. [HR]
No Love Down Under: Finally, the recession hits home: Hugh Jackman’s Seed Production, founded in 2006 partially to stimulate the Australian film community, has shut down its Australian office and will continue operations in L.A. only. Seed’s biggest success was Wolverine, which was shot largely in Sydney, but it also produced lower-profile TV stuff like the cricketing show An Aussie Goes Barmy, which sounds totally amazing and comprehensible to us. [Variety]
Next Generation Bush: Former First Daughter Jenna Bush Hager, a 27-year-old teacher in Baltimore, will join the Today show as a part-time correspondent on education. The job grew out of two Today show appearances Hager made to promote her books. She’ll also remain at her previous place of employment, where she’ll be a reading coordinator this upcoming school year. Barbara Bush II, where you at? [HR]
Why Did That Show Get Canceled, Anyway?: In other action-packed-twin news, Sister, Sister’s Tia and Tamera Mowry will reteam for the Lifetime Original Movie Double Wedding, about twin sisters who start seeing the same man. Also, Tia begrudgingly takes Tamera’s math test for her when Tamera has no time to study because of a big date the night before. [Variety]
