Shame on you for being skeptical yesterday when Elizabeth Taylor called Michael Jackson’s This Is It “the single most brilliant piece of filmmaking I have ever seenâ€! Critics are weighing in this morning with mostly raves that should mitigate any fears that the movie would amount to simple grave robbery. New York’s David Edelstein says it’s “vivid, illuminating, and sometimes — more often than you’d think possible — inspiring.†Roger Ebert gives it four stars, “one of the most revealing music documentaries I’ve seen.†Ann Powers calls It “beautiful.†Variety’s Andrew Barker loved it too, pointing out that the film is only occasionally creepy. All note that Jackson actually seems pretty with-it despite his low weight and all the Propofol we now know he’d been injected with. So when This Is It wins every Oscar next year, remember who called it.
