Jimmy Kimmel Takes a Page Out of David Letterman’s Playbook, Admits to Relationship With Staffer

Do you have any idea how difficult it is for late-night television hosts to find potential new mates? Apparently, much harder than we had ever imagined! One would think that having across-the-desk access to an endless parade of the world’s best-looking and funniest people would open up one’s dating pool substantially, yet it seems as if the white guys who crack jokes between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. vastly prefer to dip their proverbial pens in the proverbial company ink. We’re not sure if you’ve been following the news lately, but a tiny story that flew underneath everyone’s radar a few weeks ago revolved around David Letterman’s admission that he has been sleeping with female members of his Late Show staff for a few years. And now, Jimmy Kimmel is coming forward with some revelations of his own.

After his relationship with the furry-lipped comedienne Sarah Silverman imploded a few months ago, the ABC funnyman began dating Molly McNearney, the 31-year-old co-head writer of his show, a source close to Jimmy Kimmel tells People magazine in an EXCLUSIVE story. McNearney has been a Jimmy Kimmel Live! staffer since 2003, during which time she graduated from personal assistant to her current position of power. The anonymous source made sure to tell People that “during work hours, they keep things professional,†but somehow, we don’t entirely buy that.

One other note: After all these tawdry revelations about the hosts of the late-night circuit have emerged over the last few weeks, maybe it’s time we reevaluate Conan O’Brien’s and Jay Leno’s decisions not to have any female writers on staff. At the very least, we’re guessing each of their wives is happy that neither thinks women are funny enough to write for them.
