Could Doubling Up on Golden Globe Nominations Hurt Your Oscar Chances?

Congratulations to all of this morning’s Golden Globe nominees; we’re sure it’s an honor. And now double congratulations to Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, and Sandra Bullock, who were doubly honored with two acting nominations each. Or should we say — what were you thinking?!

The Golden Globes, with their cornucopia of categories, have always been susceptible to actors popping up multiple times. But this year it could maybe have Oscar ramifications! All three of the double-nominees — Damon is up for Best Actor-Comedy for The Informant! and Best Supporting Actor for Invictus; Bullock’s up for Best Actress-Drama for The Blind Side and Best Actress-Comedy for The Proposal; and Streep’s going head-to-head with herself in Best Actress-Comedy for both her Julie & Julia and It’s Complicated roles — are Academy Award contenders.

The lesson here? Clearly, if you’ve landed a role with Oscar potential, don’t screw it up by making any other movies that could even be close to getting nominated for anything for the rest of the year.
