Judge Throws Out Stephenie Meyer Plagiarism Case

A judge dismissed a plagiarism case brought against Stephenie Meyer in a decision made public today. The author Jordan Scott had claimed that Meyer’s Breaking Dawn, the fourth in the Twilight series, ripped off her 2006 novel The Nocturne. Judge Otis D. Wright II read both books and determined that Scott is delusional. He said the novels are “not substantially similar as a matter of law,†and accused Scott of “deceptive presentation of the alleged similarities.†Those similarities? Both books involve a wedding scene, a sex-on-the-beach scene and a subsequent childbirth. Also, both books have covers, are written in the English language, and are printed on paper made from trees.
