Incredible news! R&B trailblazer, filmmaker, and yodeler R. Kelly will take a short break from composing the remaining 900 chapters of Trapped in the Closet to write his memoirs! The book — in which he’ll address the loss of his mother, his hit-making, and his six-year legal battle against child-pornography charges — is due out in early 2011 via Tavis Smiley’s imprint, Smiley Books (recent publisher of other scholars such as Cornel West and Henry Louis Gates Jr.). “I’m writing this book as Robert, not R. Kelly,†Kellz says in a press release today. “I’m tired of being misunderstood. I will show you the tears, fears, and sweat. I will open my heart and reveal the good in my life as well as all the drama.†(His co-writer, David Ritz, will presumably do the same.) Publishing is saved!
