We still can’t believe it came down to this, but this evening’s episode of the Tonight Show will be Conan O’Brien’s last as host. His guests will be Will Ferrell (who, not so coincidentally, was also Conan’s first Tonight Show guest), Neil Young (will he play “My My, Hey Hey), and the one and only Tom Hanks. Regarding the latter, this isn’t the first time that Hanks has presided over a farewell show at NBC: Way back in 1993, he and musical guest Bruce Springsteen helped usher David Letterman out of the restrictive confines of 30 Rock that he faced as host of Late Night. Looking back at the clip, the only thing that’s more shocking than how young each of them look is that, at one point, the two of them actually joked about Tom Hanks being addicted to heroin (which he wasn’t, but it made for a good joke). Our fingers are crossed that Hanks decides to break out his legendary “Stop bending the shafts!†story for Conan tonight.
