Surprised by his fans’ confused reaction to the yodeling in his new single, “Echo,†R. Kelly threw on some glasses and recorded this video, wherein the Pied Piper explains the Alpine-born singing technique is “something you can do just to have fun.†Also, he points out, “Echo†— in which lovemaking is compared to climbing a mountain — isn’t even the first song he’s yodeled in: “[1995’s] ‘Step in My Room’ — I did a yodel on that,†he says. (It must have been a subtle yodel, because we can’t hear it.) In the end, Kellz says, he was just trying to “take my music someplace else — and it’s respecting people that yodel, as well.†We hope this clears everything up, haters.
