Before the Olympic opening ceremony kicked off last night, NBC debuted a chopped up version of the “We Are the World†reboot, which was recorded to raise money for Haiti. The Internet has the whole thing. We’ve already detailed how we feel about the song and we don’t want to pile on, but this just seems full of so many strange choices, from the ill-advised rap verse that we’ve been dreading for weeks to opening with Justin Bieber. At least the video juxtaposes shots of the stars and not-stars (seriously, who are some of these people?) with some footage of Haiti, which helps make it a little more moving. But really, it’s totally a good cause and we should shut up and stop complaining. At least that’s what we were thinking until the Auto-Tune showed up.
