Glenn Beck took James Cameron’s tirade in stride, of course, on his Fox News Channel show, seeming almost gleeful at having attracted the scorn of the high-profile director. Though he claimed that his 2007 comment that the Avatar director was “the anti-Christ†was a joke that the director inexplicably decided to take literally, Beck spent more time unleashing a flurry of jabs at Cameron. After beginning his show by scrolling a catalogue of members of the “I Hate Glenn Beck†Club, the host mocked Cameron for waiting so long to speak out (“The best part is the guy has carried this joke around with him for three long yearsâ€), called Avatar the “Smurf-murdering movie,†and then took Cameron to task for saying last night he wants “to call [global warming] deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads.â€
“Since he took my anti-Christ joke so seriously, I guess I have to ask James to stop threatening to shoot people in the street. Seventy-nine percent of Americans aren’t convinced greenhouse gases were the most important factor in the planet’s warming,†Beck said, before adding characteristically ridiculous mock tears. “Why must you kill all of them? Why must you kill all of them?â€
