In case you thought Hurt Locker helmer Kathryn Bigelow’s March couldn’t get any better, yesterday she made history as the first Oscar-winning female director to successfully evade civic responsibility. Anne Thompson reports that Bigelow was called for jury duty in Los Angeles and placed in the pool for a drunk-driving case, but was able to go back to her award-filled mansion after sweet-talking the judge:
During interrogation, Bigelow said that she couldn’t find a defendant guilty unless rehabilitation was attached to the sentence. The jury and alternates were picked before they got to Bigelow, and she was sent home.
Also probably effective would’ve been claiming she couldn’t find the defendant guilty unless a marriage to James Cameron was part of the sentence.
