Green Day made a surprise appearance at the end of tonight’s performance of American Idiot, after the show opened on Broadway Wednesday night. The band took the stage with the show’s full cast, as some performers channeled their inner fanboys and took videos of themselves onstage with the band, while one cast member attempted to crowd surf. After beginning the encore set with “American Idiot,†the group went on to play “Basket Case,†which isn’t included in the musical. Considering the mixed reviews the show received, the producers probably are wishing the band would close out the show every night. [Arts Beat/NYT]
