Come this fall, Yale students shouldn’t be surprised if they spot an Us Weekly reporter or two in their Shakespeare lecture (though they’ll be too busy discreetly snapping pics with their cell phones to notice). James Franco, who recently was accepted into Yale’s English Ph.D. program, said last night at the premiere of his documentary Saturday Night (his directorial debut) that he hopes to be teaching at Yale as a teaching assistant when he begins the program in the fall.
One might think the actor — who received an undergraduate degree from UCLA, enrolled in an M.F.A. writing program at Columbia University, and is now studying filmmaking at NYUs’s Tisch School of the Arts — might be burned out from all this schooling by now. But no! James Franco loves to learn!
“I love school,†he said. “I go to school because I love being around people who are interested in what I’m interested in and I’m having a great experience… I’m studying things that I love so it’s not like it’s a chore.â€
