With the fourth season set to premiere Sunday night (eeee!), Mad Men’s studio and network have begun discussions about extending their deal to ensure the show lasts through a possible sixth season. The current agreement between Lionsgate and AMC ends at the conclusion of season five. The major roadblock: creator Matthew Weiner is only under contract through this fourth season; according to Variety, Lionsgate wants to get a sense of how much AMC is willing to pay for the show before beginning negotiations with Weiner, who - encouragingly - has said in the past he sees the series lasting six seasons. Let’s cross our fingers we make it into the ‘70s, if only for the “Joan and Peggy hit the disco†episode.
