Jonah Hill Pretty Sure It’s Not Too Soon for a Defense of Mel Gibson Joke

At the Comic-Con panel for Megamind — the Despicable Me–ish animated movie featuring the voices of Will Ferrell, Jonah Hill, and Tina Fey — Hill kicked off what we can only hope will be a long weekend of timely jokes about Mel Gibson. Asked to name their Hollywood nemesis, Ferrell, dressed in a blue costume and face paint, name-checked Charlize Theron; Tina Fey called out Betty White (“Betty White and I are going to wrestle on Pay Per Viewâ€); and Jonah Hill joked, “Mel Gibson’s girlfriend.†Hill elaborated, “I just want to come out and officially support Mel,†before giving the crowd the middle finger and leaving the stage. He came back a few minutes later and said, “I actually read what Mel has said, and I don’t support Mel at all. Except for the fact that the Jews killed Jesus. That’s just a fact, I’m sorry.†(The Times version of his last joke omits the Jews, quoting Hill as saying, “I only support a quarter of the things he was talking about on those tapes.â€) More Mel at Comic-Con, surely to come.
