Industry Roundup: Alba, Stiller

Spy Game: Jessica Alba is in negotiations to star in Robert Rodriguez’s Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. The fourth film in the franchise represents a reboot of the series, as it will center on a retired spy (Alba) who is “reactivated†- and she’s also the mother of a baby and two preteen stepchildren (the new “spy kidsâ€). Other roles to be cast include Alba’s husband (a “slightly nerdy investigative reporterâ€) and the villain (“The Time Keeper,†who aims toÂ… stop time). Alba is quickly becoming the Scarlett Johansson to Rodriguez’s Woody Allen, as this will mark her third film with the director (including this fall’s Machete). [Heat Vision/HR]

Efron’s Lucky One: Taylor Schilling (Mercy) beat out actresses including Abbie Cornish and Katie Cassidy to score the female lead opposite Zac Efron in The Lucky One, an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel. The book tells the story of a Marine (Efron) who attributes his survival of three tours of duty in Iraq to a photograph he’s kept of a woman (Schilling) he doesn’t even know. When he gets back to the U.S., he sets out to find her. Dear John meets Cinderella. [HR]

Time To Kill: As had been rumored, Doug Liman will direct the time-travel action flick All You Need Is Kill, which is based on the 2004 Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. The story follows a soldier in a war against aliens who “finds himself caught in a time loop†in which he wakes up in the past after he is killed on the battlefield. He “attempts to change his fate†as his skills grow with each reawakening. So kind of like Groundhog Dog but way, way more violent. [Variety]
