Last night’s Emmys: good! And in no small part, thanks to these four segments: the opening Glee-centric number, a Modern Family bit featuring the always lovely George Clooney, Jimmy Fallon’s musical homage to fallen TV shows, and, of course, Ricky Gervais. Watch them all and you’ll be caught up on the highlights.
The show opened with this high-energy bit, featuring the cast of Glee, Tina Fey, Betty White, er — Kate Gosselin, Jon Hamm, and Jimmy Fallon singing Born to Run and jumping in unison. Jon Hamm does a mean twist.
Later, Modern Family got the focus, with a segment about how to “improve†the show, including rendering Sofia Vergara in 3-D, making Cam and Eric not-gay, and also having George Clooney join the family.
Fallon’s own personal highlight came with this, a musical in-memorium to 24, Law & Order, and Lost. Fallon dressed up as Elton John, Boyz II Men, and Billie Joe Armstrong while serenading each show with silly lyrics, and, awesomely, pouring some of his 40 onstage out of respect for Law & Order.
And then, best of all, Ricky Gervais being his reliably magical self.
