TNT is finally making a pilot for an updated version of eighties prime-time soap opera Dallas. The network hired a writer for the project last December, but filming will begin shortly on a first episode that “focuses on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers JR and Bobby Ewing.†Meanwhile, as if to highlight just how not in keeping with the rest of TNT’s workplace-centric lineup a Dallas remake would be (cops, lawyers, nurses … shoulder pads, oil, and cat fights?), the network has also ordered pilots of Perception, about “an eccentric neuroscientist who uses his unique outlook to help the federal government solve complex cases,†and another about a recently widowed cop and his newly married partner. Meanwhile, sister network TBS has ordered a pilot called Brain Trust, about a cop whose secret weapon is three think-tank geniuses. The Ewings should fit right in.
