South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are moving from the screen to the stage with a new musical called Book of Mormon. It will be directed by Casey Nicholaw, who received a Tony nomination for The Drowsy Chaperone. They also collaborated with Robert Lopez, the co-creator, composer and lyricist for Avenue Q. So this thing’s got some real-deal Broadway people behind it. Here’s the synopsis:
The new musical tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries who are sent off to spread the word in a dangerous part of Uganda. Their tale is told in parallel with the story of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sounds pretty interesting, no? And you’ve got to be interested in what the guys who wrote “Blame Canada†and “Unclefucker†are going to do when given an entire Broadway show to play with. [via]
