Jay Leno doesn’t tape standup specials because it’s just not the same as doing it in front of a live audience. I guess this explains why his Tonight Show isn’t that funny: “I’m not someone who does HBO specials or puts out videos or tapes. Look, if you want to hear my jokes, I’ll come to you and do them. It’s not as funny when you watch (an act) on the VCR. It’s not a shared experience. When you’re sitting in front of the TV and the phone rings and the cat walks in front of the TV, it’s not as funny as sitting in a club.†[via]
