Will the Spider-Man Musical Be a Smash or a Disaster?

The upside is, no one was injured during last night’s first preview performance of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark! The downside is, many breaks were needed when the show’s $65 million-worth of special effects repeatedly snafued. The long-delayed show is scheduled to open on January 11, so there is still a little time to work out the kinks, but at this point, let the handicapping begin: Will this be one of Broadway’s biggest disasters? Or will it pull a Titanic (the movie…though the musical did do okay!) and defy nay-sayers and become one of Broadway’s biggest hits, forcing theater pundits to line up to apologize to Bono and Julie Taymor?
