The actual ceremony for this year’s Mark Twain Prize — the annual honor given out by the Kennedy Center since 1998, nabbed by Tina Fey this year — was held last week in Washington, D.C., but PBS’s telecast aired last night. It was pretty funny! Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski turned up with character-appropriate performances (a bit about how Tina Fey used to strip-club party till 6 a.m. in the SNL days and a musical number, respectively) and Jon Hamm was his usual charming self, but Alec Baldwin stole the show with a pretaped bit where he played a loopy, misogynistic, reanimated Mark Twain (apparently, women’s “brains aren’t shaped rightâ€). And then Tina herself stepped out and delivered an acceptance speech that was funny, self-deprecating, inspiring, and just a little bit mean. In other words, totally great. Check it out above!
