Weekend Update host Seth Meyers has been chosen to host the White House Correspondent’s Association Dinner, a yearly even where a comedian gets up in front of the president and the Washington press corps and roasts the president with varying degrees of harshness. Meyers is certainly a better choice than last year’s Jay Leno.
The most famous host was probably Stephen Colbert, who pulled no punches in ruthlessly mocking President Bush, who was sitting only a few feet away. The reception in the room was chilly at best, but later, video and transcripts of his routine blew up on the internet. I still think it’s one of the best things he’s ever done.
