Jodie Foster Boards Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium

How can it be that Jodie Foster has done so little sci-fi? It’s a genre that’s perfect for brainy, rom-com-averse actresses, and yet aside from 1997’s Contact and a voice stint on The X-Files, Foster’s barely gotten her feet wet. Luckily, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp has plans to change that: He’s just lined up Foster to join Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley in his upcoming outer-space movie Elysium, though plot and character details are still being kept under wraps. Since Foster already committed this year to star as brain scientist Jill Bolte Taylor in Ron Howard’s biopic My Stroke of Genius, maybe she’s finally ready to get her geek on. [Deadline]
