If you ever get lonely, you just go to the record store and visit all your friends. If you ever want to see your comedy idol make a host of delectable STD jokes, you can go see Amy Poehler and Isla Fisher’s new film Groupies. Fisher explained in an interview that she and Poehler co-wrote the script, which they will also produce and star in as the titular band aids, after struggling to find good material for the ladies. “After Wedding Crashers I was just surprised as to the lack of comedic female material there is. So I had to start working and getting stuff out there for myself,†Fisher explained. I am beyond excited to see this. I’m going to start sleeping on a drum kit now!
While the script is still in development, Groupies joins Bridesmaids on the list of films written by an SNL alum that I will follow around the country in a filthy van, emotionally-speaking. “Groupies is pretty close to being ready and I’ve got another movie called Life Coach which I’ve been working on. Hopefully one of them will go soon. It’s more frustrating being in development than it is just to be cast in something. It’s a lot of things involved,†Fisher said. Now, I’m not saying Poehler will just be Amber the cocky one-legged hypoglycemic stunner in this movie; I’m just saying that is a natural character choice and I whole-heartedly support her decision either way.
