Saturday Night Live Recap: Zach Galifianakis Scares Us Straight; Paul Brittain Is a Funky Boy

There was no beard-shaving on this episode, but Galifianakis slid through easily on this mostly mediocre episode. He played to his strengths in an opening monologue rife with non sequiturs, but it was mostly downhill from there. Despite some funny moments in the cold open (Bill Hader’s Charlie Sheen impression is ridiculously spot-on) and the “Kings of Catchphrase†skit, the show was mostly a dud. Said Mike Ryan at Movieline, “Unfortunately, the staff around Galifianakis didn’t seem to know what to do with him — and there was a lot of show left for things to go wrong.†But even Zach Galifianakis on a bad day is better than ten Jennifer Lopezes.

Most Likely to Have Been Based on an NYMag.com Article:
The cold open seemed like it was cribbed almost directly from a recent Daily Intel piece on the relative crazy of Qaddafi, Sheen, and Beck.

Best use of the concept “Dr. Velociraptorâ€:
It looks like somebody got the original kings of the catchphrase back together for one last go-around. Paul Brittain kills as Goran “Funky Boy†Bogdan.

Most Meta:
Galifianakis plays a cannibalistic killer who references The Hangover in this installment of “Scared Straightâ€:

Best Use of Cute Kids:
Oh look, Galifianakis is looking for a new assistant, and he’s picking one out from the under-10 set.
