Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides took the top spot at the box office this weekend, earning $90.1 million during its debut. We’d take that stack home pretty happily, but previous Pirates movies managed to debut to even more, without higher ticket prices and 3-D screenings. While the number was, somehow, a bit disappointing, the movie still need not worry about making money. In second place, Bridesmaids earned another $21 million, bumping its cumulative earnings to a solid $58.5 million. Thor stayed in the top three, earning another $15.5 million, for a cool $145.4 million cume. Fast Five made another $10.6 million, for a $186.2 million total so far. In fifth place, Rio, which has been in the top five for as long as we can remember, earned another $4.6 million, bumping its cumulative earnings to $131.6 million. Meanwhile, down in twelfth place, Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris opened in limited release, earning $579,000 in only six theaters. [BoxOfficeMojo via Movieline]
