Another week, another new Lady Gaga track! Following the release of “Born This Way,†“Judas,†and “Edge of Glory†comes “Hair,†Gaga’s latest emphatic dance track about being who you are and doing what you want and living what you live and eating what you eat, etc., no matter what people do or think. This time, the central conceit is that Gaga is her hair. The chorus: “I’ve had enough / this is my prayer / that I’ll die living just as free as my hair.†Also: “I’m as free as my hair / I’m as free as my hair / I am my hair.†Equally notable: In the first verse, and in a motivation both Will Smith and the Beastie Boys understand all too well, Gaga rages against narrow-minded parents; then, in the second verse, Gaga expresses a desire for “lots of friends that’ll invite me to their parties†— a sentiment that is about as universal as it gets. Finally, just like in “Edge of Glory,†the E Street Band’s Clarence Clemons shows up and drops saxophone riffs all over the place. The Summer of the Sax rolls on!
