Nicollette Sheridan’s wrongful-termination suit against Marc Cherry and ABC is heading to trial, which means a California jury will decide whether her character, Edie, was unfairly killed off on Desperate Housewives. The suit stems from a 2008 incident in which Sheridan claims Cherry hit her; when she complained to ABC, she says, the issue wasn’t taken seriously enough, and her suit claims that she was fired shortly thereafter as retaliation. The initial accusations included discrimination based on sexual orientation and age, but Sheridan dropped those parts of the suit. The judge in the case dismissed Sheridan’s claims of assault and sexual harassment, but said it was “clear†that the wrongful-termination part was “something that needs to go to a jury.†Yes, let’s have a jury decide whether character arcs on Wisteria Lane make sense creatively.
