There’s something about the New York City mayor’s gig that beckons to our most talented, volatile actors. First, rumors flew that Alec Baldwin was mulling a run for the office, and now it looks like Russell Crowe has gotten the nod — onscreen, at least. Deadline reports that Crowe will play Hizzoner in Broken City, an Allen Hughes–directed noir drama about a private investigator (Mark Wahlberg) who tangles with Crowe’s potentially corrupt mayor. And the Aussie is well-suited for the gig: Unlike some other New York political figures we could name, at least Crowe and Baldwin have already gotten their embarrassing phone scandals out of the way. Good luck to them both! [Deadline]
