Can you make a retro-set TV show these days without instantly conjuring Mad Men? Probably not, although Starz’s upcoming period drama Magic City looks like it does a better job than Playboy Club of side-stepping the Don Draper of it all. Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as Ike Evans, a hotelier and family man whose ties to the mob are becoming increasingly problematic. Olga Kurylenko plays Morgan’s wife, Danny Huston plays his mobster foe, and Miami plays a city we’re all supposed to think is cool and glamorous. Magic City premieres in the spring, so there’s plenty of time to brush up on your fifties mafia lingo.
