Veteran’s The Hurt Locker Lawsuit Dropped

A judge today dismissed a lawsuit brought by Iraq War veteran Sergeant Jeffrey Sarver, who’d sued The Hurt Locker and its screenwriter Mark Boal for, basically, making a movie about him, not asking first, and deciding not to at least name the main character Jeremy Sarver or Jeffrey Renner. (Well, that last part not so much.) This decision comes over six months after lawyers for the movie, which won last year’s Oscar for Best Picture, asked that the charges be dropped. A statement from the defense team calls the ruling “a huge victory for all filmmakers who should feel comfortable using real life events as inspiration for their films.†[ArtsBeat/NYT]
