Breaking Bad Plot Unfolds in Massachusetts Meth Arrest

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: An older educator and a young dude cook meth, have troubles.

Yeah, it’s Breaking Bad. But it’s also kind of what’s been going on in Somerville, Massachusetts, the Boston Globe reports. A 74-year-old college math professor, Irina Kristy, and her 29-year-old son Grigory Genkin are charged with doing the make-meth-at-home thing and are now facing allegations of “distribution of meth, conspiracy to violate the drug law, and drug violation in a school zone.†The school zone bit comes from the piece of this scenario that’s perfectly Breaking Bad-ish in its just-plausible insanity: The lab/residence is roughly 500 feet from both City Hall and an elementary school.

Kristy has taught at two Boston universities for more than two decades; she continues to teach full-time at Boston University, while Suffolk University put her on administrative leave.

Kudos were awarded (… by us, now) to the Globe for its mature conduct in not likening the situation to Breaking Bad at any point. Journalism!
