Once, the acclaimed 2007 film, seems like an obvious, easy transfer to the stage; the romantic story inspired many enthusiastic fans, and the music’s already won an Oscar. It’s not surprising, then, that the show is going to Broadway after its Off Broadway run, but it is unusual for that announcement to be made before the first preview, which is what the producers did earlier tonight. It’s unclear whether the decision has more to do with confidence in the show’s quality or a shortage of Broadway musicals this season, but either way, Once is set for Broadway early next year.
