While some things about Doctor Who are timeless — the TARDIS, the theme song, the “scary†goofiness of the Daleks — the cast, famously, is not. The Doctor du jour (Matt Smith) is staying put for now, but his traveling companions, Amy Pond and her husband, Rory (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill), are ending their journey in the middle of the next series. The nature of their departure is being described as “heartbreaking,†which is not an uncommon way for companions to go (and technically, Rory’s already died once or twice, poor guy). Let us doff our fezzes in their honor.Â
