Has Katherine Heigl tired of making battle-of-the-sexes romantic comedies? Yesterday it was announced that Heigl would star in a thriller about face-blindness, and today she’s picked a project even further afield from her usual genre: She’s the first actor to sign onto The Happytime Murders, based on a long-acclaimed Todd Berger script set in a world where people and puppets coexist. Jim Henson’s son Brian will direct the movie, described as an R-rated dark comedy and plotted like so, according to Deadline: “When the puppet cast of an 80s kids TV show gets murdered one by one, a disgraced detective-turned-private eye puppet takes on the case.†Sounds kind of like that puppet episode of Angel! No word yet on whether Heigl would be playing (wo)man or Muppet.
