The relationships between recent iterations of Sherlock Holmes and his faithful sidekick Watson have been highly bromoerotic – just think of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in the big-screen franchise, or Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the imported Sherlock – but the new CBS version is going a different way. Southland star Lucy Liu has been cast as Watson in the modern-day pilot, Elementary, which finds her playing sober sponsor to Jonny Lee Miller’s rehabbed Sherlock in New York. They are so going to do it. (Solve crimes, that is.)
