A few weeks back, when Santigold dropped the video for “Big Mouth,†Vulture (and the general public) assumed that the cartoonish blue-haired lady floating around the screen was meant to be an unflattering representation of one Katy Perry. Ditto for the mermaid, who bore a striking resemblance to Lady Gaga, and a mutant-boobed Lindsay Lohan figure. But Santigold says she wasn’t throwing shade: “That was actually not intended in the way everyone thought. I am not that familiar with Lady Gaga or Katy Perry, I swear to God. I missed that.†But it was them, right? “I can’t say the director missed that, though — it might have been his brilliant interpretation of my song, but we never discussed it.†If you’re in the market for some beef, Santigold is willing to go in on certain musical groups. “I’m sorry, but LMFAO performed at the Super Bowl? Aren’t they a joke band? That type of shit makes me cry.†Awww, Santigold! There’s no crying at the Super Bowl! Just throw up your middle finger and move on.
