Even Lady Cora Has Mixed Feelings About Season Two of Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey’s second season disappointed some fans of the show, and Lady Cora feels your pain. “There is a slightly different tone to the second season,†Elizabeth McGovern tells the L.A. Times. “It’s kind of a taste thing,†she says, “and the show in the first season was more to my taste than the show in the second season.†McGovern says the second season had to gloss over “small moments†between the characters in order to “deal with this huge elephant†of World War I. “In some ways, Downton Abbey wasn’t set up for that,†she says. Just like Downton Abbey itself wasn’t set up to be a hospital or convalescent home! But by God, these glamorous, passionate, old-timey British people can make anything work.
