Pundits are speculating that Robert Pattinson may turn up on the Croisette this year if his David Cronenberg film Cosmopolis debuts at Cannes; good thing he already knows the French … intimately. At least, that’s the takeaway from his new film Bel Ami, which finally got Stateside distribution and a new U.S. trailer after that foreign teaser a few months back. In it, Pattinson proves that the best way to social climb is to do so horizontally, and his randy protagonist soon makes his way through the bedrooms of 1890s Paris, where he gets frisky with Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Christina Ricci. We would suggest that the trio might make for a good game of F/M/K, but we fear that Pattinson’s character is the type to take those directions all too literally.
